"Jesus
Christ, God's Son, Savior." A powerful meaining with in a simple
symbol. During the days when Christians had to worship in secret, visiting
believers could find their way to the worship center along the underground
passageways by looking at the fish symbols on the wall pointing the way.
"So
then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and those entrusted
with the secret things of God. Now it is required that those who have
been given a trust prove faithful."
(1 Corinthians 4:1)

Ichthus

Acrylic on stretched canvas - 2001
Price: $780 |
Ichthus
(meaning "fish") is a Greek acrostic where the first letters
carry the meaning "Jesus Christ, God's son, Savior." Tradition
says that the symbol was used as a secret sign by the early persectued
church to designate themselves as believers in Jesus. One person draws
an arc in the sand; another completes it with a second arc to affirm brotherhood
in Christ.
"Come,
follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
(Matthew 4:19)
